Melancholia is an independent jewellery brand founded and run by designer and visual artist Daria Malicka. Its designs stem from a symbolic way of thinking about the world of objects and explore the language of things in its cultural and anthropological dimensions. Each collection forms a self-contained narrative on a miniature scale, centred around the sensory experience of matter, the meanings we assign to objects, and the relationships we form with them.

Melancholia’s designs have been presented in Poland and internationally – in magazines such as Vogue Polska, GQ Portugal and Harper’s Bazaar Polska, in publications and editorials, at exhibitions, and in selected concept stores. Positioned at the intersection of design, fashion and art, Melancholia approaches jewellery as a personal object capable of carrying meanings, emotions and individual stories.

Works by Melancholia are part of the collection of the Central Museum of Textiles in Łódź and have been presented in the exhibition New Polish Fashion. A Chronicle of Deep Feelings, curated by Marcin Różyc. In 2025, the brand’s collections were also presented in Rome as part of East Bound Roma, an event organised by Fundacja Kraina with the support of the Institute of Creative Industries.

Melancholia jewellery is crafted from sterling silver, occasionally plated with 24-karat gold or rhodium. The designs are developed using 3D modelling and printing technologies, combined with traditional jewellery-making techniques and hand-finishing. Production takes place locally, in collaboration with a specialised foundry and jewellery workshop in northern Poland. Melancholia is committed to responsible production, limited editions, and close attention to the quality and durability of each piece.

Since its inception, Melancholia has developed a distinctive and consistent visual language while engaging in creative collaborations with practitioners from different fields. The brand’s visual identity was developed in collaboration with designer Maciej Wodniak.
